Suffering from Hayfever?

Suffering from hay fever? It's a very common at this time of year but it doesn't have to be that way! In Ayurvedic medicine hay-fever is seen as a curable condition through completely natural methods. It is linked to kapha and pitta as it involves excess mucus which is kapha quality and heat and inflammation which is from pitta. It is therefore often necessary to follow a Pitta/Kapha reducing regime. This includes cutting down on foods with heating qualities such as tomatoes, chilli, caffeine, red wine, oily foods, red meat and citrus fruits (except lime), but also cutting down on mucus forming foods such as peanuts, bananas, refined carbohydrates, dairy products and coconut products. 

You may benefit from a full Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle consultation for a long term approach, however for now try these quick fix natural remedies:

 

Raisins - 1 tbsp 
Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp
Fresh ginger - 1 inch piece (sliced) 
Garlic - 4 cloves
White pepper - ½ tsp
Add 1 cup of water and boil for 15 minutes.
Dose : adults – ½ cup twice a day after meals

 

Coriander and ginger tea 3 times daily:

For one cup lightly crush 1 tbsp of coriander seeds and boil for 3-5 mins then add a tbsp of slightly crushed fresh ginger. This remedy is great for colds because it increase circulation, reduced inflamation and the ginger helps to remove toxins from the system.
